However, many functional MS Access solutions look terrible, and that can mean potential clients are reluctant to invest in the Access solution.

Anecdote:

My first exposure to Access was in the 1990’s in Melbourne when I was working in a multi-national. I engaged an MS Developer to create a custom solution for my department and it worked great. I loved it…but it looked terrible.

I knew there were other solutions that my contractor could come up with within the firm so I introduced him to various managers within the firm…and went on extended leave for a year.

When I returned from leave, I asked my colleagues if they engaged the contractor to solve their issues to find out that they didn’t. Reason: “His work is a mess”. It’s sad because the contractor in question was really good and able to understand the problems that needed to be solved.

  1. The previous 10 or 15 years of great web design and phone apps have raised expectations for all applications.
  2. We dojudge books by their covers”. We need to invest in great interface design for Access.
