File-based apps such as Access databases can NEVER be made 100% secure. A capable and determined hacker can break any Access

database given sufficient time and motivation. However, by erecting various barriers, it is certainly possible to make the process so difficult and time consuming that it isn’t normally worth attempting.

Colin will use this session to outline some of the main steps that developers should take to improve security. Which you should use will depend on who or what you are trying to protect your apps against. Some of these steps will be familiar to all experienced developers but the session will focus on less well-known aspects that may be new to some of you.

The session will include a discussion of some of the security weaknesses built-in to the Access database structure and one or more security challenges for you to test your hacking skills against.

All required code will be provided together with example apps demonstrating its use.
