Our chapter president, Maria Barnes, will talk about

1. How Access developers typically use VBScript
2. Why we should be concerned about being able to replace VBScript
3. How to call PowerShell from VBA

John Clark will demonstrate how he used ChatGPT to convert a VBScript application launch script (started from an example by Bill Mosca) into PowerShell.  What were the key techniques he used and what did he struggle with.

John Clark served over 22 years in the U.S. Navy in the logistics field, where he developed a passion for finding smarter, more efficient ways to manage inventory and financial data. His journey into database development began with Lotus 1-2-3 and Borland’s Paradox, long before Microsoft Access became the standard.

After retiring from the Navy in 2005, John continued his career as a logistics contractor for the U.S. Government, where he transitioned to Microsoft Access when Paradox was no longer available on government systems. In 2008, with the help of Google and the Access World Forums community, he built his first Access application—an experience that sparked his ongoing enthusiasm for the platform.

John later accepted his first formal developer role while stationed in Italy, where he also gained experience working with SharePoint and SQL Server as backend systems. Since returning to the U.S. in 2019, he has worked at the Defense Logistics Agency in Richmond, Virginia, maintaining and developing Access applications that support critical logistics operations.
