AEA: Data Type Mapping Access to SQL Server

Last month we presented an overview of planning a migration to SQL Server.

The big question everyone had at the end is –

how do we map the data types in Access to the, not quite the same, data types in SQL Server?

This month we deep dive into the data types and differences so we can make good decisions.

For example, Access Double doesn’t have an exact equivalent so what do we do?

Yes/No in Access is not quite the same as SQL Server’s Bit data type, so what is the difference and when do we need to consider an alternative?

Crystal is going to start with an overview of data types in Access and then we can discuss the best mapping options.

We won’t have time to cover the new Date types – DateTime2 and the new Extended Date type in Access and VBA, that’s a whole discussion all on its own, but we should get through most others.

Adrian (aka Cool Ade) is sure to Byte us with an in depth dive into the bits that make up each type.

Sure to be lively and illuminating so come and join us.
